As we were discussing the workshop after the fact, Fritz and I recalled that many people have had some success using voice recognition software for creating transcripts.
As we indicated during the workshop, the technology for software to convert an audio track to text just isn't there yet. When I tried, what I produced was laughable -- just nonsense. Voice recognition software still needs to be trained for individual voices. However, if you employ a person who has the software already training and can re-voice the audio track using the voice recognition, you may experience clear benefits, such as greater efficiency (not to mention a happier employee with less repetitive stress).
I expect that more robust recognition software will be developed in a matter of just a few years, but the process seems to be mostly incremental at this point.
